Formaldehyde

I have always been a big fan of dissections. I will never forget the first worm I poked up in sixth grade; it had a big heart for it was old. Then there was the shark and the mink (whos head we stole). I like taking apart things and looking at their individual pieces in order to better understand the whole...perhaps that is why I adore Kathryn Parker's dissection of food. Lab pastries if you will. Take a look!

Pre/Post

I am still trying to figure out HTML. For now, I have the link to my radio show however, I hope to soon have it play on the blog. Maybe one time I will succeed.

For now here is a song I am currently loving. Norway by Beach House.

Baldwin

To be sensual, I think, is to respect and rejoice in the force of life, of life itself, and to be present in all that one does, from the effort of loving to the making of bread.
-James Baldwin

I Was There

I saw the latest Spike Jonze film the other night and i quite enjoyed it. I thought that had the characters been people and not robots it would have been much more cheesy, however in this case it was cute. Though I had some critique I felt overall tone of the film was great and it just added to my desire to create my own films.

Food.
From the time I wake up in the morning till the time I lay my head to rest much of my thoughts are focused on food. There is nothing like a tasty meal that brings pleasure in each and every bite. When I am cranky the only thing that really cheers me up is good food (and pictures of it too! Thanks foodporndaily.com)

Radio on Mars

(to make you own, go to http://www.nike.com/jumpman23/becomemars/index.html)

Above is a picture of Andrea (right) and I (left) as Mars/Spike Lee. I always loved his film, Do the Right Thing. The radio host in the beginning, one can almost feel the heat of a New York Summer and the man has such a wonderful radio voice. What am I getting at? Well Andrea (again me on the left her on the right) is my co-host on our new radio show, In City & In Forest which we broadcast from YouthRadio. On the show we plan to play music ranging from alternative, rock, hip-hop to the classics. Aside from the music the two of us will be keeping our listeners up to date on current events as well as discussing our passions, poetry, film, theatre, and more. Please tune in from 4-5 94.3 KPFB. Or go to our pod-o-matic page (more details on where to listen as the show progresses)

I've been at YouthRadio for three or four years now and I truly love being on the radio. My role model is Ira Glass, host of This American Life, and I dream of interning and maybe even having a job at National Public Radio (NPR)

Maybe one day I'll be as lucky as Ira Glass and get to broadcast
my own rendition of This American Life?!

The Clockwise Witness

Every Thursday for this past year Eline and I rush home from school, make apple and cheese paninis, and create art. Last Thursday we worked on Cardboard people inspired by the artist James Castle....

Camping next to Water

It is still quite cold here in Berkeley however, Eline and I are heading to Point Reyes for the weekend and I've begun to obsess over summer days spent at the beach. I cannot wait!

Alone in Kyoto, Elated in Tokyo

Recently I re-watched one of my favorite films, Lost in Translation. There is a certain semblance to this Coppola film. The feeling of entering a land completely new is both exciting & nerve racking.
I went to Japan not long ago and it
was like no other place I've ever been. A mix of jet lag with the new people, new land, and new
sensibilities was both wonderful and surreal.

Here are some of my photos along with some drawings out of the book, A Year In Japan
by Kate T Williamson.

Lost at Sea

Recently I went to Europe with my Art History class. It was beautiful there. I particularly enjoyed going to Spain for the first time.

The Embarking

My name is Lucia and I've decided that I should begin a blog.

Having always been an advocator of journal entries I figured a blog would be a great chance to document a few of the many moments I hope to reflect on later in life. I'd like to display some of my passions. On this blog I may show food, photographs I like, friends, art, and also music.

The Experiment Begins....
